Brian O’Doherty, “Notes on the Gallery Space” (Inside the White Cube)

Initially I didn’t understand this reading at all. I thought it was long and wordy, and it was hard for me to digest. There were times I could follow along but other times I just got confused. It was really helpful that we discussed the reading in class, I could get my classmates perspectives and have the Prof break it down.

The concept of the white cube is interesting to me and something I noticed but not something I think about all the time. Now, after reading the reading, I can see gallery spaces in a different way. For example the Owens Art Gallery resembles the white cube, whereas if you had an exhibition in Waterfowl Park it would be breaking the norm of the white cube.
