We were asked to bring an informed exhibition review to class. I don’t know much about exhibition reviews so I thought if I chose a review on an exhibition I had seen in person, I could better dissect the review to help my understanding of the way a good review should be written. I chose a review on Janet Cardiff, Forty-Part Motet, I saw this piece three years ago at the NGC in Ottawa and I really enjoyed it. I was looking through lots of different reviews, but I ended up choosing a review from the NGC’s website. https://www.gallery.ca/magazine/your-collection/at-the-ngc/sculpting-sound-janet-cardiffs-forty-part-motet.
I only learnt later in class that this was not a reliable source, oops. Although this was slightly embarrassing, at least I tried and I ended up learning something anyways so It isn’t really a loss. I also looked through a number of different reviews like for example this one from the Observer, https://observer.com/2024/12/review-janet-cardiffs-forty-part-motet/.
